Biography

Born in 2000, Sara Maia began her musical training at the age of six. In 2020, she completed her vocal studies at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa. In 2021 she completed a degree in Musicology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and in 2024 a Master’s degree in Musicology, Historical Musicology, with a dissertation entitled “A canção está na rua. The transnationality of the intervention song between Portugal, Spain and France (1968-1975)”. At the same time, she is studying singing at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, trying to combine her work as a performer and musicologist. In 2021, she began teaching beginner music classes for children aged 3 to 8 at the Academia do Som and the Academia de Música de Almada. She is also interested in music criticism and, together with university colleagues, she has created a digital platform on the subject: Ruído-Mudo. Since 2022, she has been a member of CESEM, Centro de Estudos de Sociologia e Estética Musical. In 2023 she began a collaboration with the MIC.PT – Portuguese Music Research and Information Centre. Also in 2023, she founded an Early Music group, Altos do Bairro, together with five colleagues from Lisbon.
