Comments by Sara Maia (CTC) in the ‘Celebratorium’ concert series

Sara Maia, a collaborator in the Research Group for the Study of Music, Critical Theory and Communication, will present the concerts in the ‘Celebratorium’ cycle. The 2024 edition is a tribute to three great Portuguese composers of the 20th century: Joly Braga Santos, Frederico de Freitas and Fernando Lopes-Graça.

November 15 marks the birthday of Frederico de Freitas. In this concert, it will be possible to hear his “Wind Quintet”, composed in 1950. The concert also features another wind quintet, ‘7 Lembranças a Vieira da Silva’ by Lopes-Graça. Both pieces will be performed by the Quinteto de Sopros do Vale, which focusses on the interpretation of repertoire from the second half of the Portuguese 20th century.
