Bárbara Sá da Costa was born in Lisbon. She holds a degree from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where she also completed a Master’s in Music – Piano (2015), studying under Professor Miguel Henriques. She continued her studies at the Musikhochschule Münster in Germany with Heribert Koch, and completed a Master’s in Lied Accompaniment at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (2023), where she had the opportunity to study with Fritz Schwinghammer, Gerold Huber, and Christian Gerhaher. Throughout her career, she has taken part in several advanced training courses both in Portugal and abroad, notably at the Fondation Royaumont (France) and the “Aurora Festival and Masterclass” (Sweden). She was a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin “Live Music Now” foundation and was awarded the 1st Prize at the Yamaha Foundation Competition (2016). Her versatility as a pianist is reflected in her regular collaborations with various musical ensembles and projects, including a children’s adaptation of Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. She was a répétiteur for the Münchner Oratorienchor and has participated in two of the most prestigious Lied competitions: the Internationaler Wettbewerb für Liedkunst Stuttgart and the Helmut Deutsch Liedwettbewerb. She performs regularly in concert and collaborates with the Ensemble MPMP in promoting Portuguese music. Since 2022, she has worked as a ballet accompanist at the Ballettakademie of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, in Germany, where she maintains a diverse artistic and pedagogical activity. In 2024, she began a PhD in Musicology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH). Recently, in 2025, she was awarded a research grant by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) to support her doctoral project.
