Biography

Iris Bramberger is an Austrian composer currently situated in Lisbon, Portugal. She has obtained a bachelor’s degree from The Royal Conservatoire The Hague, Netherlands, a master’s degree from Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, Portugal, and is currently pursuing a doctorate at Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universitade de Lisboa, Portugal. Her research is focused predominantly on the intersection of sociology and composition questioning the methodologies surrounding composition aiming to orient it toward a pursuit of social justice. In regard to composition, Iris’ work aims to combine elements of popular music with tools from western contemporary classical music. Her works have been performed among others at Estufa Fria, Lisbon, Palácio do Sobralinho, Lisbon, Espace QC, Porto, Orgelpark, Amsterdam, Korzo, Den Haag, Museum Voorlinden, Den Haag. Most of Iris’ compositions focus on sociopolitical issues.
