Ricardo Nuno Futre Pinheiro

Biography

Ricardo Pinheiro completed his Degree in Music (Summa Cum Laude) – Performance at Berklee College of Music, Boston; Degree in Psychology Sciences at the Universidade de Lisboa; and a PhD in Musicology (Ethnomusicology) at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
He is currently the Director of the Master of Music Program at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.
He participated in conferences and meetings in Austria, Greece, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, U.S.A., Denmark, among other countries, and published scientific papers in journals such as Acta Musicologica of the International Musicological Society, the Jazz Research Journal, or the International Review for The Aesthetics and Sociology of Music.
Scholarships and Awards: Berklee College of Music (2000-2002); Fundação Luso-Americana Para o Desenvolvimento (2001-2002);Centro Nacional de Cultura (2001-2002); Rutgers University – Institute of Jazz Studies – Morroe Berger – Benny Carter Jazz Research Fund (2004); Fundação Para a Ciência e Tecnologia (2004-2008).
He is also an Integrated Researcher at INET-MD – Institute of Ethnomusicology – Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he is the director of the Jazz Studies Research Line.
He argued more than 40 post graduate dissertations in more than 5 Universities, and advised more than 25 Masters and PhD students.
As a musician, he performed/recorded with musicians such as Dave Liebman, Erik Ineke, Peter Erskine, Chris Cheek, Mike Del Ferro, Matt Renzi, Jon Irabagon, Dave Carpenter, John Gunther, and Mário Laginha.
