Biography

SARA PÉREZ MARTÍNEZ has a degree in accordion from the Conservatorio Superior de Música ‘Eduardo Martínez Torner’, a degree in History and Science of Music from the University of Oviedo and an Interuniversity Master’s Degree in Musical Heritage from the Universities of Oviedo, Granada and UNIA. She is currently on a pre-doctoral contract thanks to the Formación de Profesorado Universitario Grant (FPU) at the University of Oviedo, where she is working on her doctoral thesis ‘De majos a chulapos: “pasando revista” historiográfica y musical a los personajes tipo del Género Chico (1874-1902)’ under the supervision of Dr. Cortizo. During his doctoral studies she has taken training courses, such as Techniques and resources for effective writing of academic texts, Studies in 20th century urban musicology or Disseminating science to the media. Furthermore, she has participated in different national and international congresses, conferences and seminars, such as the IV International Congress of doctoral students of the Miguel Hernández University; the III MUSAM International Congress; Outside the theatre: Music in Unconventional Venues of Nineteenth-Century Europe, organised in collaboration with the Centro Studi Opera Omnia Luigi Boccherini and the ERASMUSH group; the 42nd International Congress of ALDEEU or the V International Congress of Continuous Training Nodos del Conocimiento. She has also collaborated in musicological dissemination activities at the Colegio de España in Paris with the conference ‘De la calle a la escena. La situación laboral en Madrid a través de la zarzuela (1874-1902)’. She also completed a three-month doctoral stay at IReMus and the Sorbonne Université in 2024. On the other hand, she has worked as a curator in the exhibition ‘Stephen Sondheim: the father of modern musical theatre’ at the ‘Ramón Pérez de Ayala’ Library of Asturias, in cooperation with the Regional Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Tourism.
