Biography

CHRISTOPHER BOCHMANN (born 1950) studied at Oxford University, from where he has a D.Mus. He also studied privately with Nadia Boulanger and Richard Rodney Bennett. He has worked in Britain, Brazil and since 1980 in Portugal. He taught at the Instituto Gregoriano de Lisboa and at the Conservatório Nacional and later at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, of which he was Director for 6 years and where he supervised the composition course for 16 years. He is a full professor of the University of Évora, where he was Dean of the Arts from 2009 to 2017. He has been principal conductor of the Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil (Lisbon Youth Orchestra) since 1984. In 2004 he was awarded a Medal of Cultural Merit by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and in 2005 he was decorated with the O.B.E. His compositions include almost all genres, from solo to orchestral music, from chamber music to opera, and also countless orchestrations and arrangements.
