Circle Singing with Sofia Ribeiro

Circle Singing is a form of guided vocal improvisation, a tradition of communal singing that can be described as ‘improvised choral music’. It is a musical ritual in which participants gather in a circle to sing, with one or more leaders at the centre.
The music is composed entirely in the moment, and the singing, in constant flux, can continue for extended periods, forming the basis for various solo moments. Each circle song is a unique and unrepeatable creation, inspired by traditions of collective singing, beatboxing, movement and free improvisation in multiple languages (both real and invented).
Taking part in the creation of music that emerges spontaneously is a unique, magical and profound experience, which creates a special bond between everyone present. It is an opportunity for singers and non-singers alike to come together and explore their voices in a free, creative and liberating way.
We invite you to take part in a unique musical and artistic experience, in which all participants come together to form a choir that emerges in real time. Through this, the singer Sofia Ribeiro will guide the spontaneous creation of circular songs.
It will be a session lasting an hour and a half dedicated to improvisation, creativity and exploration, for which all you need to bring is your desire to sing. There will be no “spotlight” on you, if you so wish; here, we are all part of the creation in the moment, of the music that emerges in the air, without any focus on the individual performance of each voice.
Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water to keep yourself hydrated during the session.
