Theatre-Music Festival: 100 years of Berio (1st Edition)

This cycle of concerts was born out of the collaboration between musicologist Filipa Magalhães and the Tempo Reale centre, founded by Luciano Berio in 1987 in Florence and currently directed by Francesco Giomi. As part of her research into theatre-music, Filipa Magalhães proposed dedicating the first edition of the Theatre-Music Festival to Berio, who celebrates the centenary of his birth in 2025.
A central figure in the European musical avant-garde of the 20th century, Berio was a pioneer in the use of experimental techniques. His research began in 1955 at the RAI’s Musical Phonology Studio in Milan, where he explored new relationships between acoustic and electronic sounds, and between sound and words, in collaboration with Bruno Maderna, paving the way for new forms of musical expression.
