Gustavo Silva studied at the Music Academy of Portimão, where he completed his 8th grade in piano with a final grade of 18. Throughout his career, he has accompanied several soloists and, in this sense, his Artistic Aptitude Exam was focused on the work of an accompanist pianist.
In 2023, he enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology at NOVA FCSH, where he currently has an average grade of over 18. Under the Erasmus+ programme, he spent a semester at the University of Southampton, where he took courses in jazz theory, orchestral conducting and performance. In 2024, he was selected as a New Talent scholarship holder by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. For a year, under the guidance of Professor João Pedro Cachopo, he researched on the (in)appropriate uses of the concept of authenticity in the interpretation of western classical music. This study culminated in the publication of an article entitled ‘The Paradoxes of Authenticity in Musical Interpretation.’ At the same time, he completed a curricular internship in the ‘Filarmónica Enarmonia’ project (teaching music to blind or visually impaired people), supervised by Professor Rui Magno Pinto. Gustavo is also a member of the Centre Thought and Music.
In addition to his academic studies, he is a flutist at Sociedade Filarmónica Silvense; he taught AECS (Curriculum Enrichment Activities – Dramatic and Musical Expression) at the Santo António Elementary School; he published a column in the Público newspaper; he regularly works as an usher at Theaters and volunteer at conferences.
