Gilberto Vieira

Gilberto Vieira Garcia works in the Humanities with an emphasis on the Arts: History and Music. The most frequent terms used to contextualise his scientific, technological and artistic-cultural production are: History of Music Education; History of Music in Brazil; Musical Iconography; Teaching History and Music; and he also works as an instrumental musician, composer and arranger. He is currently carrying out a post-doctoral research project at CESEM-Nova Lisboa, Portugal, with the aim of investigating the illustrations and musical caricatures made by the Portuguese artist Raphael Bordalo Pinheiro during the period in which he lived in Rio de Janeiro, between 1875 and 1879. He has a PhD in Education from UFRJ. He did a doctoral internship at EHESS at the Centre des Recherches sur les Arts et le Language, under the supervision of Professor Dr Esteban Buch. He has a Master’s degree in Education from PUCRio. He has a degree in Music from UniRio and a degree and bachelor’s degree in History from UFRJ. His doctoral and master’s research centres on the history of music education in the 19th century. He is currently Assistant Professor of Arts at the Federal Institute.
