Summer School 2023 | “Music as a representation of gender diversity and sexualities from the 18th century to the present day”

10/07/2023 - 31/07/2023

“Music as a representation of gender diversity and sexualities from the 18th century to the present day” is a course of the School of Version at NOVA FCSH under the aegis of the Center for Studies in Music and Gender (NEGEM), at CESEM. The objectives of the course are to provide tools that allow students to think about the role of sound and music in the social construction of gender identities and sexual orientations; to introduce languages, styles, genres and forms of artistic expression, in different periods of history and geographical locations, in which music intersects with a diversity of identity roles; to use artistic works to critically and creatively question social conventions and expectations resulting from a variety of intersections between music, gender and sexuality; and to assist the student in developing
of audiovisual analysis skills, transferable to other contexts in which music represents identity and vice versa.

The course has a total of 10 e-learning classes, running from July 10 to July 31, 2023.
