What we propose in the first meeting of this cycle whose title makes reference to Ernesto de Melo e Castro’s text “Two happenings happenings” is not only to make a retrospective of these two Portuguese experimental events “Concerto e Audição Pictórica” (1965, Galeria Divulgation) and “ Objecto Conference ”(1967, Galeria Quadrante), but from them develop an analysis of the role of music in its various dimensions and relationships (sounds, performances, records and hybridizations with other arts). From these “Two happened happenings” we try to open a transversal dialogue with some of its referents, such as John Cage, and with some of their drifts, such as the prepared pianos of Jorge Peixinho, the experimental music of Jorge Lima Barreto, the composition by Clotilde Rosa, or the burning piano by João Onofre. From Brazil, there are also, among others, the examples of Márcia X and Alex Hamburguer in their Tricyc (l) age.

Practical examples and the re-performance of the projected Game I by Clotilde Rosa will put these ‘performativities’ in a practical dimension.

The “Concert and Pictorial Hearing” took place on January 7, 1965 at Galeria Divulgation, under the proposal of Jorge Peixinho and with the participation of António Aragão, Salette Tavares, Manuel Batista, Mário Falcão, Ernesto de Melo e Castro.

The “Objecto Conference” took place on April 17, 1967 and took place at Galeria Quadrante, being presented by José Augusto França and consisting of Jorge Peixinho, Ana Hatherly, José Alberto Marques, Ernesto de Melo e Castro.
