Musical Itinerary – International Day for Monuments and Sites

18/04/2017 @ 14:00 - 15:00 WEST

Concentration near the entrance of Colégio Mateus d’Aranda, Rua do Raimundo, Évora.

The musical itinerary “Sacred music in Évora in the 16th and 17th centuries” intends to take the participants on a short walk through the historic center of Évora, having as a guide the musical activity of the city’s religious institutions during the 16th and 17th centuries. From the research that has been carried out in this area, numerous geographical references have emerged regarding musical practices as well as the biographical aspects of the musicians who developed their activity in the city. Within the scope of the project that is being developed at the University of Évora center of the Sociology and Musical Aesthetics Study Center, entitled “Sound Landscape and Musical Heritage of Évora”, this musical itinerary proposes a (re) discovery of an intangible heritage that it often goes unnoticed by visitors and which is still one of the references for which Évora is known internationally as a world heritage site.

The Musical Roadmap will be conducted by musicologist Luís Henriques, a collaborator at the University of Évora pole of CESEM – Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics.
