Luso-Brazilian Studies

Luso-Brazilian Studies

Coordinator: David Cranmer
Co-Coordinator: Alberto Pacheco

The thematic line Luso-Brazilian Studies involves all of CESEM’s research groups whose research themes relate to music and musicians in Portugal and Brazil, and their interaction. Its activities are centred on two central pillars: Caravelas – Núcleo de Estudos da História da Música Luso-Brasileira (Study Group for the History of Luso-Brazilian Music), founded within CESEM in 2008, which encourages collaboration among musicologists working in this area – in Portugal, Brazil and elsewhere – through resources and initiatives (publications and events) (see https://nucleocaravelas.wixsite.com/meusite and https://www.facebook.com/caravelas.nucleo); the Thematic History of Music in Portugal and Brazil, currently in its initial phase.

Although this line functions informally within CESEM, the formal structures of its two pillars intrinsically impose a scientific rigour and effective means of functioning.
