LOG IN LIVE ON – MUSIC AND CIBERCULTURE IN THE AGE OF THE INTERNET OF THINGS, by Paula Gomes-Ribeiro, Joana Freitas, will be released on April 3, at 6:30 pm, at the National Museum of Contemporary Art – Chiado, Júlia Durand and André Malhado (eds.), And Preface by Mário Vieira de Carvalho, CESEM researchers, in an edition of Húmus and the Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics, from NOVA FCSH. In a few years, we have witnessed an exponential increase in digital flows of musical, sound and audiovisual contents in a global media landscape, making it available to consumers through all types of platforms, websites and social networks. With the expansion of streaming, the progressive abandonment of CD and music downloads, the multiplication of virtual spaces of musical dissemination and the increasing mobility of online access devices, music production, distribution and consumption systems have been vigorously reconfigured. The music industries are undergoing intense change. The dematerialization of the musical listening supports is proportional to the increase in the capacity of communication and data sharing between computers, tablets, radios, televisions, clocks, mobile phones and other appliances. The Internet of Things plays a key role in what Klaus Schwab (2016) calls the fourth industrial revolution, enabling networking between objects, agents, industries and devices (from smartphones to fridges) in the context of accelerated convergence of technologies each more powerful and robust economic interests. Edited by Húmus and by the Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics of NOVA FCSH, this ebook presents a set of current musicological perspectives on the reconfiguration of practices and models of musical communication in the context of the expansion of the Internet and new forms of sociability network. LOG IN LIVE ON counts on the participation of specialists in the fields of sociology of music, musicology, ethnomusicology, composition and musical production: Mário Vieira de Carvalho, Paula Gomes Ribeiro, Guillermo de Llera Blanes, João Francisco Porfírio, Petra Rakic, João Pedro da Costa, Filipa Cruz, Teresa Gentil, Luís Marcelo Franca, Joana Freitas, Júlia Durand, Mariana Ramos de Lima, Hugo Paquete, André Malhado, Rui Pereira Jorge, Isabel Pires, Luís Soldado and José Grossinho.
